Thanks again to our contestants, judges, musicians and Byre staff for the event.

Our winners of the night were the awesome Maia Kall Fry in the Blockbuster category and audience choice award, the jointly wonderful Dylan James and Alex Budman in the Indie category and Jenna Al Ansari, Ollie Carr and Inez Gordon in our first time film maker Home Movie category.

Unfortunately, unforeseeable technical issues meant that not all the films were able to be to be shown. To that end, we're in the works to ensure those films are shown in the future. A huge apology to all the film makers whose hard work was not shown and please rest assured that your efforts were not without good cause.  
]]><![CDATA[The REAL Final Countdown...]]>Sat, 10 Mar 2012 12:08:58 GMThttp://www.60hourfilmblitz.com/2/post/2012/03/the-real-final-countdown.htmlWith less than 12 hours to go, the 60 Hour Film Blitz 2012 has surpassed all our expectations, both in terms of things needed to be done, as well as in terms of the satisfaction of doing said things.

We've essentially doubled our number of participants from last year (top that, next year's Blitz'ers!), which meant a lot more work for us but also a lot more anticipation about finally getting to watch all these ingenious and creative films shot around St Andrews.

As the clock is ticking, we're busy in our make-shift headquarters on the top floor of the Union (in the Media Suite, courtesy of Rogue Productions), making sure participants get all the assistance they require to make the films they want to make it.

The Brass Monkeys are a jazz quintet who formed earlier this year, prompted by the desire to play newly composed music as well as lesser-known material by modern jazz greats. They take our inspiration from music from the 50's through to the present day. 
Here's a bio for Weltenwandler:
“It’s about making music that you feel. It’s about telling stories without words.” Since he started making music in 2008, his main aim was to create something people could relate to, something that not only makes their feet but their minds move. Since then, Weltenwandler has been on a journey to find exactly this little spark, this little thing that ignites the listener’s imagination, be it within electronica, melodic deep house or even aggressive techno. After all, music is all about finding your own story.

Registration is for individuals or teams of up to 8 and £10 buys the team entry into the competition along with one free ticket to the final screening.

Tickets to the final screening will soon be available to purchase from the Byre theatre's website. 
]]><![CDATA[Three Week Warning!]]>Sat, 11 Feb 2012 00:38:08 GMThttp://www.60hourfilmblitz.com/2/post/2012/02/three-week-warning.htmlWell, not really three weeks as such - but you get the picture. Things are really starting to heat up for the Blitz this year! Registration for the competition this year should be up and running on Monday. After that, publicity is really going to hit the town pretty big. We intend to be at the library for V-Day, giving out hearts and good cheer. After that, we intend to be IN the library in a big way. Not reading books mind you (moi?) but instead up on the big screens downstairs, selling you what you should already know - that you should be a part of the Blitz!

This week, after a meeting and some pretty concerted efforts, we have a new page up on the website, some almost confirmed judges, some media spots on the horizon and all things looking good. I'm also pleased to announce that we will be holding workshops for the blitz the week before the event. There will be four workshops in total both during the week and at the weekend so, every should get a chance.

It will updated every Monday with a roundup of what's going on, with other information posted as and when it occurs during the week. 

At present, in spite of some videos on the site, registration is not open for the March 2012 competition. It will probably become possible to register from the second or third week of February. 

We have confirmed our first judge for the competition, the esteemed film critic/theorist/maker Chris Fujiwara (whose website can be seen here). We are just ironing out the details with other judges and are hoping to have some more confirmed very soon. 

In other news, on our Facebook and Twitter, we are going to be asking for last years contestants to help provide us with extra media for the site including their videos and testimonials. 

This year's Blitz should be (excuse the hackneyed old phrase) bigger than ever. That's actually a promise as the Blitz will be bigger than last year (with our shiny new venue, The Byre Theatre all confirmed) and that's all we have to compare it to.
